Designed to assist those who use the standards to review permit applications, inspect and enforce building regulations. This course will familiarize participants with a mid-level coverage of the 2016 Energy Standards, from the vantage point of the residential & nonresidential building envelope; topics will include: new construction, additions & alterations. The course will also include an overview of fenestration and mechanical systems in nonresidential buildings. Upon completion, participants will be better able to: identify forms needed for the envelope and quickly develop a review path appropriate to given projects; recognize what to look for in checking compliance forms both in plans check and inspection; identify mandatory prescriptive and performance requirements; understand the purpose and boundaries of the registry and 3rd party verifiers.

CREDITS:

This course approved for on-going education hours. A certificate of continuing education will be provided at the conclusion of class.

SPEAKER: Russ King, Vice President of Energy Efficiency Services has developed innovative systems & methods to improve building efficiency through better codes, code training & HVAC design & optimization. Russ is also the lead trainer and curriculum developer for the BayREN Codes & Standards training program.

This full day course will provide an overview of the non-structural and structural provisions of the California Residential Code. The first half of the course will focus on select non-structural California Residential Code requirements. The second half of the course will provide an in depth review of California Residential Code wall bracing requirements.

This course is designed for plan check, inspection and counter staff that are interested in obtaining a greater understanding of the California Residential Code.

Ron has taught classes on a variety of structural topics for CALBO, Southern Nevada EduCode, and multiple local ICC Chapters and professional organizations throughout CA

This Training provides guidelines and procedures for making post-earthquake building safety evaluations. The purpose of these evaluations is to determine whether damaged, or potentially damaged, buildings are safe for use or if entry should be restricted or prohibited. This training provides procedures for two different levels of safety evaluation and advice on evaluating structural, geotechnical and nonstructural hazards:

  • Where to look for damage and;

  • How to rate the safety significance of damage.

This class will train credentialed persons (licensed civil engineers, architects, or certified building inspectors and plans examiners) to be SAP Evaluators to work in the field posting buildings and infrastructure for safety or usability, and will train building officials and emergency managers to be SAP Coordinators, using best practices to manage the field activities. An ID badge will be issued to credentialed persons. Non-credentialed persons may also attend, and receive a class certificate. Each participant will receive a current Post Disaster Inspection Identification card issued by the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. The program is sanctioned through the Governor's Office of Emergency Services OES.

CREDITS: This course is approved for on-going education hours. A certificate of continuing education will be provided at the conclusion of class.

SPEAKERS: Greg Mahoney, has been involved with building code enforcement for 27 years. He is currently serving as Chief Building Official for the City of Davis. He has also taught in the Building Inspection Technology Program (BIT) at Cosumnes River College for over 11 years.

  • From San Francisco: Take the Fairfield/West Texas Street exit. Merge onto West Texas Street and continue 1.4 miles. Turn right on Union Avenue.
  • From Sacramento: Take exit #44 W Texas Street/Rockville Road. Continue straight 0.3mi then turn left at Rockville Road. Pass under the freeway, then continue 1.4 miles on W Texas Street. Turn right on Union Avenue.
  • Park on the first or second floor of the parking structure. Parking passes will be provided at Registration.

He hasrepresented numerous clients in ADAaccessibility litigation as an expert inboth state and federal complaints. Hecurrently serves as the Past President &Director of Professional Practice Standards for the Certified AccessibilitySpecialist Institute (CASI) and Chair ofthe CALBO Access Committee. Additionally, Gary received an award ofrecognition from Governor Brown for thedevelopment of the ConstructionAccessibility Checklist.
